A Quick Important Note On Grades:
We grade our Persians & Orientals!
The ‘name’ of any genuine hand-made Persian or Oriental carpet/rug only indicates origin, such as a town (e.g Tabriz), tribal group (e.g. Belouch), a market town (Shiraz), etc. Not quality or value. Using wines as an analogy, not all Cape or French wines are the same are they!
So, as with any hand-made art or craft, Persians come in grades of quality - from low to average to high. The higher the grade, the greater the value and demand — and the greater the benefits such as beauty of colours & artistry, durability, improving beauty with use — even potential for appreciation in value.
Example: Say a Belouch rug, say 1.8 x 1.2 m. Prices (for illustration only, not actual) might be: Low Grade, R2,500; medium Grade, R3,500; Superior grade, R5,000; Top grade, R7,500; Rare “vintage” item R15,000 etc.
We only deal in from medium (what we call Grade 1) and up; and highly recommend Superior grades, which are lovely yet affordable; and Top Grades for those who insist on the best.
Be aware: there are many “cheap” & “bargain” - low grades on the market which may be “OK” as simply floor covering. But they tend to fade, wear poorly, are lacking in beauty, made from poor dyes and wools.
